Statement on Test Slant Well Report for June 3-10, 201
Today, California American Water is posting weekly data at watersupplyproject.org. This week’s posting will show the Test Slant Well was “turned off” on Friday, June 5. This is part of the process of gathering valuable data on what, if any, impact the Test Slant Well may have on groundwater levels. Our network of monitoring wells determined that regional ground water elevations were declining over time. A condition of the California Coastal Commission permits requires California American Water to monitor ground water elevations, and if the ground water elevation drops more than one and a half feet in monitoring well #4, to temporarily turn off the Test Slant Well. On June 5, we turned off the Test Slant Well and notified the California Coastal Commission. The Hydrogeologic Working Group developed a memo detailing these events. That memo was submitted to the California Coastal Commission on June 10 and is posted at watersupplyproject.org. California American Water will wait for direction from the Hydrogeologic Working Group and the California Coastal Commission before restarting the Test Slant Well.
While the Test Slant Well is off, California American Water will continue to monitor regional ground water elevations and report this data to the Hydrogeologic Working Group, the California Coastal Commission and the public. The preliminary consensus of the Hydrogeologic Working Group is that the ground water elevation trend is not related to Test Slant Well operation, but is the result of other factors including seasonal irrigation on nearby land.
